Serving the far north of Scotland

helping you to enjoy making music

Wow, this covid-19 crisis has caused big changes to how group music making is happening (and not happening) across the world! We're adapting fast...

At the moment in Scotland it is not possible to make music in a large group. So while we're waiting for restrictions to ease, we're keeping busy in a variety of ways to help our local community.

Each Sunday afternoon at 2pm, Susie and Katrina have been playing "Hymns in the Garden" - fifteen minutes of hymns on cornet and tuba livestreamed on facebook. We've been doing this for a few months now, and gradually the restrictions are lifting. First we were able to welcome Susan on euphonium to join us at a safe distance, then we added Kitty and Ricky on cornets in next-door's garden. You can watch videos of these hymn sessions even if you're not a member of facebook. Just visit the Pentland Brass facebook page. You can watch live at 2pm each Sunday or you can catch up later just by visiting the page. And if you are a member of facebook, you can leave comments and requests.

Similarly, each Wednesday at 2.30pm, Susie hosts a half-hour singalong session on the Wick Choral Society facebook page. This event is suitable for anyone at all, with lots of favourite songs to singalong to. Susie also takes requests if you leave a message for her on the facebook feed either during the livestream or after the event if you're watching on catch up. Susie's missing her regular weekly health choir and her visits to the nursing home in Wick, so this event is a small way for her to be able to connect with people who love to sing for pleasure.

Finally, Katrina is suffering from the after-effects of her own covid-19 infection and her costochondritis is making it very painful to practice on her usual brass and woodwind instruments. So she's taken up the piano and is relishing a #couchtograde8 challenge in aid of the Scottish Schools Orchestra Trust! You can sponsor her and watch her introductory video here, and if you keep an eye on the caithnessmusic facebook page, you can join her as she livestreams each MTB piano exam!! So far she's raised over a thousand pounds for SScOT and has gained distinction level marks at grades 1, 2 and 3 and 4... grade 5 coming very soon!
